Georgia 70, No. 18 Mississippi State 68 (OT): Gerald Robinson scored 10 of his 13 points at the end of regulation and in overtime, and Georgia stunned No. 18 Mississippi State 70-68 in Starkville, Miss.
Georgia (12-12, 3-7 SEC) won its second straight conference game, snapping Mississippi State’s 13-game winning streak at Humphrey Coliseum.
Robinson hit two free throws, then stole the ball and drove for a dunk, giving Georgia a 65-63 lead with 1:48 remaining in overtime. After Mississippi State’s Jalen Steele rattled home a 3-pointer, Georgia’s Kentavious Caldwell-Pope hit a 3-pointer from the right corner with 1:05 remaining, pushing Georgia ahead 68-66.
Trailing 70-68, Mississippi State (19-6, 6-4 SEC) had a chance to win on its final possession. But Dee Bost’s 3-pointer from the right wing was short.
Georgia tied the game at 59-59 on Robinson’s tough driving layup with 27.6 seconds left in regulation. Mississippi State’s Jalen Steele missed a 3-pointer off the front rim with two seconds remaining, forcing overtime.
Caldwell-Pope led Georgia with 20 points. Bost led Mississippi State with 21 points. Renardo Sidney added 10 points and 13 rebounds.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Robinson, who scored a career-high 27 points Wednesday against Arkansas, missed 11 of his first 12 shots before scoring eight consecutive points at the end of regulation and into overtime. … Mississippi State forward Arnett Moultrie, first in the conference in rebounding (11.0) and fourth in scoring (17.0), finished with just 12 points and five rebounds. … Georgia had not won a road game since a 63-59 victory Dec. 17 at Southern Cal. … Georgia shot just 5-for-11 from the free-throw line.
