ARIZONA STATE 57, UTAH 52: Carrick
Felix scored 15 points and Trent Lockett added 12 in his return from an ankle
injury as Arizona State won for just the second time in seven games while
continuing Utah’s woes.
Jordan Bachynski had 11 points and
12 rebounds for his first career double-double as Arizona State (8-16, 4-8
Pac-12) avenged a 21-point loss to the Utes earlier this season.
Utah (5-19, 2-10) shot just 30.4
percent from the field while losing its fifth straight game and dropping to 0-9
on the road.
Chris Hines scored a team-high 10
points for the Utes, who have scored fewer than 60 points 15 times this season.
Lockett returned from a six-game
absence and helped the Sun Devils build a 47-33 lead after a 3-pointer by
Chanse Creekmur with 6:26 left.
But the Utes rallied to within 48-44
on a 3-pointer by Dijon Farr with 1:44 remaining and eventually trailed just
54-52 on a 3-pointer by Kareem Story.
Felix hit two free throws and Chris
Colvin hit one in the final 11.7 seconds to help Arizona State hold on.
Arizona State never trailed after a
15-0 first-half spurt turned a five-point deficit into a 10-point lead. Felix
began the charge with a three-point play and Jonathan Gilling ended it with a
3-pointer as the Sun Devils took a 23-13 advantage with 2:14 left in the half.
Utah shot just 20.8 percent from the field in the first half … Bachynski had 10
boards in the first half while recording his second double-digit rebounding
game of the season … The Sun Devils had a 40-22 rebounding edge … Arizona State
committed 20 turnovers.
