Recap
EVANSVILLE 65, CREIGHTON 57: The nation’s top shooting 3-point team went ice cold, hitting just 4 for 22 as visiting Creighton lost its second straight.
The No. 15 Bluejays led 56-52 with 5:25 remaining, but Evansville (12-12, 7-7 MVC) closed the game with a 13-1 run.
Antoine Young, Creighton’s only senior, missed three free throws in the final two minutes.
Undersized Evansville packed the lane to defend Doug McDermott, daring the Bluejays to take open 3s, but Creighton (21-4, 11-3 MVC) couldn't convert.
Evansville’s leading scorer, Colt Ryan, was just 3-of-12 from the floor and finished with 14 points, six below his average. Kenneth Harris scored 15, including 10 in the second half.
Creighton turned the ball over 10 times in the first half and trailed 33-31 at the break. Evansville led by as much as 10, but the Bluejays finished the half on a 10-2 run.
The Bluejays missed their first eight 3-pointers. Meanwhile, Evansville’s Lewis Jones made his first 3-pointer of the season in the first half and then hit another two minutes later.
McDermott finished with 21 points and eight rebounds. Freshman Austin Chatman chipped in 11 points in 13 minutes.
With the loss, Creighton fell into second place behind Wichita State. The Bluejays take on the Shockers on Saturday in Omaha.
