Final Scoring Summary
Recap
Bo Spencer scored 19 points as Nebraska claimed its first Big Ten win with a 70-58 victory over visiting Penn State on Wednesday.
Toney McCray added 13 points for the Huskers (9-7, 1-4 Big Ten), who shot 55 percent from the field en route to their first conference victory since joining the Big Ten this season.
The win was particularly gratifying against a Penn State team that routed Purdue and gave No. 8 Indiana all it could handle over its last two contests.
The Nittany Lions (9-9, 1-4) shot just 34.5 percent from the field – including a season-worst 3-of-24 effort from the 3-point line – and matched a season-low with five assists.
The woeful offensive performance put a damper on a dominant performance from Tim Frazier, who scored a career-high 30 points while also collecting six rebounds, five steals and each one of his team’s assists.
Despite entering this game as one of the two winless teams in conference play, Nebraska established a 12-point lead late in the first half and took that same advantage into the break – the third time in five Big Ten games the Huskers have led at halftime.
The Huskers increased the lead to as many as 18 points twice in the second half as they shot a sizzling 62.5 percent from the 3-point line over the final 20 minutes.
Frazier notched his Big Ten-leading eighth game of at least 20 points for the Nittany Lions, who fell to 1-5 on the road this season. It also marked the second time this season that he scored at least half of his team’s points in a game.
