Crabbe delivers late, lifts Nets over Hawks

NEW YORK -- Reserve Allen Crabbe scored 20 points as the Brooklyn Nets beat the Atlanta Hawks 116-104 on Sunday.
After starting in Friday's win over Orlando, Crabbe turned in his 12th career game with at least 20 points. He shot 7 of 12 and made four of Brooklyn's 11 3-pointers.
Former Hawk DeMarre Carroll added 17 for the Nets, who shot 47.1 percent and withstood a stretch where they missed 15 of their first 17 shots in the fourth quarter.
D'Angelo Russell collected 16 and handed out 10 assists while hitting three jumpers in the final two-plus minutes.
Marco Belinelli led the Hawks with 19 points but it was not enough as Atlanta shot 34 percent. Dennis Schroder added 17 points but shot 5 of 22 and suffered an apparent leg injury after getting fouled by Caris LeVert with 3:37 remaining in the fourth.
After a ragged start, Brooklyn began pushing the tempo and took a 56-53 lead by halftime. The Nets held a six-point lead before Kent Bazemore hit three foul shots with less than a second left.
Brooklyn took its first double-digit lead with 4:17 remaining in the third at 77-67 when Carroll hit a left corner 3-pointer with Belinelli and John Collins closing out on him. The Nets expanded their lead slightly and held a 91-77 edge heading into the fourth.
Atlanta threatened in the opening minutes of the fourth, getting to within 93-85 on 3-pointers by Malcolm Delaney and Belinelli. The Hawks then used an 11-1 run to forge a 99-99 tie on a 3-pointer by Belinelli with 5:19 remaining.
Brooklyn regained the lead at 102-99 on a 3-pointer by Crabbe less than a minute later. After Schroder and Belinelli missed 3-pointers on consecutive possessions, Crabbe hit his fourth 3-pointer with 3:47 left for a 106-97 lead.
Russell sealed the win by hitting a 12-footer with 2:21 left and a long 3-pointer with 1:43 to play for a 112-102 lead.
NOTES: Brooklyn F DeMarre Carroll is the only player who played under both coaches in Sunday's game. Carroll was in Atlanta for Mike Budenholzer's first two seasons when Nets coach Kenny Atkinson was an assistant there. ...
