Timberwolves 97, Hornets 95: Derrick Williams scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Andrei Kirilenko blocked shots on New Orleans' last two possessions to help host Minnesota claim the season series.
Ricky Rubio chipped in 16 points and six assists and Nikola Pekovic added 13 points and six boards for the Timberwolves, who snapped a two-game skid with their third win in 13 games. Two of Minnesota's six wins over the past six weeks have come against New Orleans as the Timberwolves took three of four in the season series.
Greivis Vasquez scored 24 points and Robin Lopez collected 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Hornets, who have dropped three straight and 11 of 14. They finish their road trip 0-3 and head home for seven straight.
It was tight throughout with neither team leading by more than eight. The Hornets took a 52-50 lead into halftime, but the Timberwolves closed the third quarter with a 7-3 spurt to take a 76-73 advantage into the final period.
The Hornets led 95-91 with one minute left, but Rubio sliced the deficit to one with a three-point play and Pekovic made a pair of free throws with 14.5 seconds left to put Minnesota ahead. Kirilenko swatted away Eric Gordon's driving layup on the next possession and blocked a 3-point attempt from Roger Mason Jr. at the buzzer.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Pekovic had missed the previous eight games with an abdominal strain. Kirilenko returned after sitting out nine games with a strained calf. … Williams tied a season high with three 3-pointers and notched his seventh 20-point game of the season. … The Hornets dropped to 3-34 when trailing after three quarters.
