Jazz 96, Hornets 84: Al Jefferson scored 19 points and Paul Millsap added 16 points and eight rebounds as visiting Utah upended New Orleans.
Marvin Williams also scored 16 points for the Jazz before leaving with 2:29 left in the third quarter after hitting his head on the floor. The team later reported that Williams was experiencing concussion-like symptoms.
Robin Lopez and Greivis Vasquez scored 18 points apiece for the Hornets, who have lost eight of their last nine games.
Utah led 41-39 at halftime but dominated the third quarter by outscoring New Orleans 31-17 to build a 16-point lead. The Jazz opened the third quarter with a 10-3 run and ended it on a 16-6 spurt.
The lead was 17 early in the final quarter after a 3-pointer by DeMarre Carroll. The Hornets rallied to within 76-69 on Brian Roberts’ basket with 7:28 remaining before Gordon Hayward erupted to score 13 of his 15 points as Utah pulled away for just its third victory in 10 road contests.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Jazz shot 54.5 percent from 3-point range compared to 23.8 percent for the Hornets. … Roberts with 11 points was the only other New Orleans player to reach double digits. … Utah G Mo Williams (foot) missed his third straight game.
