HORNETS 105, ROCKETS 99: Eric Gordon scored 27 points and host New Orleans dominated overtime while handing Houston its season-worst sixth consecutive loss.
Carl Landry had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Al-Farouq Aminu scored a season-high 17 points as the Hornets won for the fifth time in six games.
Goran Dragic scored 23 points and Chase Budinger matched his season-high with 22 for the Rockets, who took a severe hit to their playoff hopes and fell a full game behind the eighth-place Utah Jazz in the race for the final Western Conference playoff spot.
Houston scored the first two points of overtime before New Orleans rolled off nine in a row as part of a 12-1 run. Landry scored five consecutive points, including a go-ahead 3-point play with 2:13 to play, and Gordon’s fast-break dunk gave the Hornets a 96-89 edge with 1:32 remaining.
The Rockets trailed 77-71 with 6 1/2 minutes remaining in regulation before Budinger hit two consecutive 3-pointers during a 12-4 run that saw the Rockets take an 83-81 lead. New Orleans went ahead 87-86 on Gustavo Ayon’s 15-footer with 41.4 seconds left and Houston’s Courtney Lee hit one of two free throws with 15.3 seconds remaining to force overtime.
New Orleans trailed by eight points at halftime but outscored Houston 26-13 in the third quarter. Gordon had eight points in the period.
Courtney Lee scored 15 points and Marcus Camby scored all 14 of his points in the first half as Houston took a 51-43 advantage.
Marco Belinelli added 13 points for the Hornets.
GAME NOTEBOOK: New Orleans had a 57-40 rebounding advantage and Landry’s double-double was his third in four games. … Houston was just 2 for 8 from the free-throw line over the first three quarters before finishing 14 of 25. … New Orleans is 6-2 when Gordon has played. … The Rockets were 11 of 31 from 3-point range with Budinger sinking four.
