Gilbert Arenas scored 24 points and Kirk Hinrich added 22 as the Washington Wizards held off the Memphis Grizzlies 89-86 on Friday.
Andray Blatche finished with 17 points and nine rebounds and JaVale McGee chipped in 10 points and 12 boards for the Wizards, who were playing their third straight game without rookie John Wall (sprained ankle).
Memphis held a 77-73 lead with 6:43 left before the Wizards went on a 12-2 run to grab the advantage back at 85-79 with 2:53 to play. Arenas gave them the lead for good with a 3-pointer at the 4:16 mark and Blatche stretched it by converting a three-point play just over a minute later.
The Grizzlies battled back to within 87-85 on Mike Conley’s layup with 1:06 left and had a chance to tie it with six seconds on the clock but O.J. Mayo missed a 3-pointer. Mayo finished just 1-of-11 from the field for three points.
Zach Randolph collected 19 points and 12 rebounds and Marc Gasol added 16 and eight for Memphis, which has dropped five in a row.
