Joe Johnson scored 25 points to lead five Atlanta players in double figures as the Hawks defeated the visiting Washington Wizards 99-95 on Saturday night.
Johnson broke an 84-all tie with a jumper with 4:28 remaining and followed with a 3-pointer as the Hawks used an 11-3 run to pull away for their third consecutive victory to start the season.
Al Horford had 21 points and 10 rebounds, Jamal Crawford had 15 points, Michael Bibby scored 12 and Josh Smith chipped in with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Rookie John Wall had 28 points, nine assists and five rebounds to lead Washington (0-2). Al Thornton had 24 points and Andray Blatche scored 18. JaVale McGee blocked seven shots.
The score was tied at 72 early in the final quarter before the Hawks went on a 9-0 run. Washington rallied back to tie the score at 84 with just under five minutes remaining after back-to-back baskets by Blatche.
The Wizards led by nine points after the first quarter but tallied just 13 second-quarter points to trail by four at halftime.
