Recap

Taj Gibson scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds and Derrick Rose finished with 22 points to lead the Chicago Bulls to an 88-83 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.

C.J. Watson added 13 points off the bench and Joakim Noah chipped in 10 points and 16 boards for the Bulls.

Chicago held a 39-35 lead at the half but watched it evaporate in the third quarter as the Mavericks opened with a 20-4 run. Dirk Nowitzki scored 12 points during the spurt, including a pair of 3-pointers.

The Bulls did not fold, ending the third with a 13-4 burst of their own to cut it to 59-56 heading into the final 12 minutes. They finally grabbed the lead back on Watson’s 3-pointer with 6:13 left in the game and pushed it to 74-69 before Dallas made another run, briefly retaking the lead at 77-76 with 3:15 to play.

Gibson drained the first 3-pointer of his career with the shot clock running down on the next possession and Chicago hit seven of eight free throws in the final minute to seal it.

Nowitzki finished with 36 points for the Mavericks.
