Arizona Diamondbacks vs San Francisco Giants Box Score on May 24, 2019

The Arizona Diamondbacks smashed four home runs and posted their highest run total of the season as they snapped a five-game losing streak with an 18-2 rout against the host San Francisco Giants on Friday night.

Ildemaro Vargas went 5-for-6, including a solo home run, as Arizona rapped out 21 hits, tying the franchise record for a nine-inning game.

Arizona's other homers were three-run shots, from Adam Jones, Eduardo Escobar and Ketel Marte. Nick Ahmed had three singles, a double and a bases-loaded walk. Jones also had four hits.

The Diamondbacks, who scored in each of the first seven innings, had managed a mere 12 runs during their five-game skid.

Arizona became the first team to have six consecutive multi-run innings in a game since the Diamondbacks did it against the St. Louis Cardinals on July 27, 2000, according to STATS. The feat has only occurred one other time since division play began in 1969: The Texas Rangers did it in 1993.

Vargas got things started with a home run in the first inning off a high fastball from lefty Drew Pomeranz (1-5).

Arizona starter Robbie Ray (4-1) went 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs and five hits while striking out nine and walking two. He retired 13 consecutive batters before issuing a walk with one out in the sixth. He has made nine consecutive starts without a loss.

Ray helped himself with a two-out, two-run single through the middle with the bases loaded in the third inning. Ray's hit chased Pomeranz, who gave up five runs and eight hits, striking out six and walking one.

Arizona outfielder Tim Locastro, recalled from Triple-A Reno on Friday when David Peralta (shoulder) was put on the 10-day injured list, had a two-run single and was hit by a pitch a team-record three times. He has been hit by seven pitches in 29 plate appearances this season.

San Francisco's Tyler Austin homered for the third consecutive game, a two-run shot that gave the Giants a 2-1 lead in the first inning.

D-backs rookie first baseman Kevin Cron, who was leading the minor leagues with 21 home runs and 62 RBIs at Reno, made his debut as a late-inning replacement after being called up Friday. He struck out in the eighth.

Arizona's Zack Godley finished up with three scoreless innings of relief, and he was credited with his second save.

The Diamondbacks were without manager Torey Lovullo, who was in Arizona to attend the high school graduation of his youngest son, Connor. Jerry Narron served as the D-backs' manager.
