White Sox blank Tigers in first game of doubleheader

CHICAGO -- Five Chicago White Sox pitchers combined to hold the Detroit Tigers to four hits in a 3-0 victory in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Tigers hitters struck out 15 times and stranded 12 baserunners after entering Saturday 11th in the American League with a .242 batting average.
The teams were playing a straight doubleheader after the first game of Friday's doubleheader was rained out.
The White Sox went ahead in the fifth when Yolmer Sanchez grounded into a double play with the bases loaded after an infield single, a single and a bunt single.
Leury Garcia hit an RBI triple into the right-field corner in the eighth. Adam Engel scored after making his major league debut as a pinch runner. Another run scored on Jose Abreu's single to center.
Tyler Danish (1-0) struck out six but walked six in five scoreless innings in his first major league start and earned his first big league victory.
Danish was 1-3 with a 3.15 ERA at Triple-A Charlotte before the White Sox recalled him on Friday. He allowed two runs in 1 2/3 relief innings last season with Chicago.
David Robertson picked up his sixth save.
Detroit starter Michael Fulmer (5-3) allowed three runs and nine hits in eight innings.
The Tigers had the bases loaded in the first and seventh innings but didn't score. Detroit was unable to take advantage of nine walks.
The White Sox had lost 13 of their last 19 games before winning the series opener 8-2 on Friday.
NOTES: The Tigers put 2B Ian Kinsler (left hamstring strain) on the 10-day disabled list before Saturday's doubleheader. Kinsler is hitting .239 with four home runs this season. ... Detroit also optioned LHP Chad Bell to Triple-A Toledo, purchased the contract of RHP Arcenio Leon from Toledo and recalled OF JaCoby Jones from Toledo.
