ST. LOUIS -- The largest crowd in Busch Stadium III history didn't have much for which to cheer Saturday night, thanks to Zack Greinke and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Greinke fanned nine in seven innings and Arizona clouted three homers against wild St. Louis Cardinals pitching in a 7-1 victory.

As 48,052 mostly sat in library silence, Greinke (13-4) gave up just four hits and a run, walking one. Greinke, who improved to 12-4 lifetime against St. Louis, permitted only one hit after giving up his lone run in the first inning.

Paul Goldschmidt, J.D. Martinez and Ketel Marte each went deep for the Diamondbacks (60-44). Marte's two-run shot to left kick-started a four-run eighth that turned a close game into a rout.

A.J. Pollock added an RBI double as Cardinals shortstop Paul DeJong and third baseman Jedd Gyorko pulled up, avoiding a collision and the bouncing ball as the crowd loudly booed. Goldschmidt tacked on a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring.

Mike Leake (7-9) permitted four hits and three runs in five innings with two walks and four strikeouts. Seven St. Louis pitchers combined to issue seven walks and hit three batters.

St. Louis initiated the scoring in the first inning. Its first three hitters collected line drive hits, with DeJong's single knocking in Matt Carpenter. But the Cardinals weren't able to post a crooked number as Greinke used strikeouts of Yadier Molina and Kolten Wong to escape real trouble.

Arizona didn't notch a hit against Leake until the fourth. That's when Goldschmidt lofted a fly ball to right that struck the top of the wall and hit signage behind it for a two-run homer, his 22nd of the year. The play survived a crew chief review.

No such protocol was required for Martinez's 466-foot drive halfway up the left-center field seats two pitches after Goldschmidt's blast. It was Martinez's fifth homer since being acquired from Detroit on July 18 and his 21st homer overall.

NOTES: Arizona placed LHP Robbie Ray on the seven-day concussion disabled list after he was struck by a Luke Voit line drive in the head during the second inning on Friday night. To replace Ray, it recalled RHP Silvino Bracho from Triple-A Reno. ... St. Louis RHP Adam Wainwright (back) threw off flat ground and is scheduled to take a bullpen session Monday when the team is idle. He could possibly be activated off the 10-day DL to start Wednesday night in Milwaukee. ... Diamondbacks 3B Jake Lamb was back in the starting lineup. Lamb was scratched Friday night after noting general soreness following his tumble into the seats behind third base to catch a foul pop on Thursday night.
