Recap

Giants 8, Nationals 0:
Brandon Belt homered among his four hits and Ryan Vogelsong tossed five shutout innings before leaving with a broken right hand as San Francisco blanked visiting Washington in the opener of the three-game series.

The Giants had a season-high 17 hits and won for the second time in their last seven games. The victory was tempered by the injury to Vogelsong (2-4), who was hit by a pitch on his throwing hand while swinging in the fifth inning.

Andres Torres had three hits for San Francisco, which scored two times in the second off Zach Duke (0-1). The Giants added three runs in the fourth, capped by Marco Scutaro’s RBI single off Craig Stammen. Duke was charged with four runs over 3 1/3 frames in his first start since July 10, 2011.

Belt launched a solo shot in the sixth and Angel Pagan had a two-run single in the seventh for the Giants, who were coming off a 1-5 road trip at Toronto and Colorado.

The Nationals were held to three hits and fell to 3-5 on their 10-game road trip. Washington has scored two or fewer runs six times in its last 10 games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Nationals RF Bryce Harper went 0-for-3 after missing two games with a sore left knee. … Scutaro went 2-for-5 and extended his hitting streak to 18 games, the longest in the majors this season. … Vogelsong allowed three hits and walked one while recording his first victory since April 11.
