Recap

Rays 2, Rangers 0:
Matt Moore struggled with his command but allowed one hit in 5 1/3 innings as Tampa Bay avoided a three-game sweep at Texas.

Moore (2-0) walked six and unleashed a pair of wild pitches but struck out five in his second scoreless start in two appearances this season. Ben Zobrist had two hits and a run-scoring fielder’s choice and Evan Longoria added a sacrifice fly for the Rays.

Derek Holland (0-1) was the tough-luck loser for the Rangers. The left-hander allowed two runs and five hits while walking three and striking out four in eight innings.

Holland’s three walks came in the third, when he walked the bases loaded with one out before getting Zobrist to ground into an RBI fielder’s choice and striking out Shelley Duncan to avoid a larger rally. Tampa Bay added a run in the fifth when Desmond Jennings doubled, moved up on a groundout and came home on Longoria’s fly to right.

Texas had the bases loaded in the sixth before Mitch Moreland grounded into a double play to end the inning, and had an even stronger chance thwarted in the eighth when Leonys Martin flied to right with one out and Adrian Beltre was thrown out at the plate for another inning-ending double play.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Fernando Rodney worked around a leadoff single in the ninth to pick up his first save. … The game was delayed one hour and 34 minutes at the start due to rain. … Rangers Opening Day starter Matt Harrison was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to back stiffness. Rookie Justin Grimm is expected to be recalled to take Harrison’s start Thursday.
