Rays 4, Padres 2: Yunel Escobar knocked in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning and James Loney homered for the second straight day as host Tampa Bay finished a three-game sweep.

Loney had a pair of hits to raise his average to .376, including an eighth-inning solo blast as the Rays won their season-high fifth straight contest. Tampa Bay starter Roberto Hernandez (2-4) allowed two runs on five hits in six innings to earn the victory and Fernando Rodney worked around a two-out walk to earn his sixth save.

Yonder Alonso had two hits and an RBI while Alexi Amarista belted his second homer for the Padres, who came into the series with a four-game win streak. San Diego starter Eric Stults (3-3) gave up three runs on five hits and a season-high five walks over 5 1/3 innings.

The Rays loaded the bases in the second with a pair of walks and Loney's single before Jose Molina’s sacrifice fly made it 1-0. Chase Headley walked, moved to third on Carlos Quentin's base hit and scored on Alonso’s RBI single to right field as the Padres drew even at 1 in the fourth.

Amarista homered to right field in the fifth for a 2-1 advantage before the Rays countered with a pair of runs in the sixth. Sean Rodriguez singled home Evan Longoria, who had led off the inning with a double, and later scored on Escobar’s double to deep right field for a 3-2 lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Rays 3B Longoria reached base for the 36th time in 37 games this season, adding a walk and a run scored in the second inning. He has 11 RBIs during the first seven games of the homestand. … San Diego C Nick Hundley snapped an 0-for-21 slump with a single in the fifth inning. … It was the second sweep of the season for the Rays, who are over .500 for the first time (19-18) since April 6.
