Blue Jays 5, Athletics 0: Mark Buehrle combined with two relievers on a seven-hit shutout as visiting Toronto evened the three-game series at one win apiece.
Jose Bautista hit his 25th homer and Emilio Bonifacio also belted a solo homer for the Blue Jays, who are 1-1 on their 10-game road trip. American League West-leading Oakland had a four-game winning streak snapped and its edge over Texas whittled to five games.
Buehrle (7-7) turned in another strong performance, scattering five hits and striking out two over seven scoreless innings. The veteran left-hander has allowed 13 hits while keeping his opponents off the scoreboard over his last 20 frames.
Bautista gave Buehrle all the offensive support he needed in the first inning with a two-out blast off Dan Straily (6-5). Edwin Encarnacion scored on an error in the fourth to double the lead before Bonifacio ignited a three-run fifth with a leadoff homer.
Straily yielded five runs - two earned - and six hits over 4 2/3 innings en route to his third straight loss. Jed Lowrie and Derek Norris had two hits apiece for the Athletics.
