Recap

Athletics 6, Mariners 2: Jed Lowrie and Chris Young hit back-to-back home runs in the seventh inning, helping Oakland beat visiting Seattle for its first win of the season.

Tommy Milone (1-0) yielded a pair of first-inning home runs but settled down to retire 17 of his final 18 batters. He allowed two runs and four hits in seven innings. Lowrie finished with three hits and three RBIs.

Nate Freiman had two hits and an RBI in his major-league debut as the Athletics roughed up Joe Saunders (0-1) and two relievers after managing only one run and six hits in the first two games of the series. Saunders allowed four runs, seven hits and walked four in four innings.

Oakland quickly fell behind 2-0 on solo shots from Franklin Gutierrez and Michael Morse, but allowed nothing thereafter as Freiman’s single scored a run in the second, Yoenis Cespedes delivered a sacrifice fly in the third and Lowrie tallied a two-run double in the fourth.

Lowrie and Young finished off the scoring with a pair of solo shots to end their offensive slump.
