Padres 6, Yankees 3:
Everth Cabrera drove in two runs and Ian Kennedy was solid in his team debut as host San Diego took the rubber match of the three-game interleague series.

Cabrera, who is facing a suspension from Major League Baseball as part of the Biogenesis scandal that could be announced on Monday, delivered a two-run single during a three-run second inning. He doubled and scored in the fourth as the Padres jumped out to a 6-0 lead.

Kennedy (4-8) kept New York off the board through his first five innings but exited shortly thereafter and was charged with two runs, four hits and four walks in 5 2/3 frames. The right-hander, who was acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks at last week’s non-waiver trade deadline, snapped a string of 10 straight starts without a win.

Mark Kotsay got things started with a sacrifice fly in the second and ended the day for Yankees starter Phil Hughes (4-10) with an RBI single in the third. Hughes was knocked around for five runs on six hits in 2 2/3 innings.

New York slashed the deficit to 6-2 in the sixth on back-to-back RBI singles by Curtis Granderson and Lyle Overbay, and added another run on Austin Romine’s first major-league homer in the seventh. Colt Hynes pitched a scoreless eighth and Huston Street worked around a leadoff single and a walk by striking out the side in the ninth to earn his 21st save in 22 chances.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Yankees SS Derek Jeter (right calf) missed his second straight game. … New York 3B Alex Rodriguez is likely to be available for Monday’s series opener against the White Sox in Chicago but is expected to be suspended by Major League Baseball for his role in the Biogenesis scandal. Rodriguez would be eligible to play if he appeals his penalty. … San Diego, which has won 10 of its last 15 games, gets Monday off before hosting the Baltimore Orioles in the opener of a two-game set.
