Recap

Mets 7, Giants 2:
Marlon Byrd homered for the second straight game and Zack Wheeler allowed one run over seven innings as New York completed its first series sweep in San Francisco since 1994.

The Mets scored three runs in the first against Matt Cain (5-6), who yielded two hits and three walks on 36 pitches and failed to make it out of the first inning for the first time in his career. The Giants lost for the 14th time in 16 contests but remained 6 1/2 games behind first-place Arizona in the National League West.

Wheeler (3-1) allowed three hits while striking out five in his first start against the team that drafted him sixth overall in 2009. The Mets extended their winning streak to four games and improved to 5-1 on their nine-game road trip.

John Buck capped the Mets’ three-run rally in the first with a two-run single and Byrd launched a two-run homer in the fifth off Mike Kickham, who was charged with four runs over 5 1/3 innings. Byrd is batting .333 with three homers over his last six games.

New York extended its lead in the sixth on RBI doubles by Wheeler and Daniel Murphy. San Francisco avoided the shutout in the seventh, when Brandon Belt raced home on Brandon Crawford’s two-out single. Belt scored again in the ninth on Tony Abreu's sacrifice fly.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Mets 3B David Wright singled in the ninth inning to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. …Cain’s ERA climbed to 5.94 in 10 home starts this season. …Mets RHP Matt Harvey will skip his scheduled start Saturday because of a blister on his right index finger. RHP Carlos Torres will start in his place.
