Recap

Mets 8, Padres 4: Matt Harvey gave up one hit and struck out 10 in a dominant seven-inning outing, and John Buck drove in three runs as New York rolled over visiting San Diego.

Lucas Duda, Ike Davis and Buck all belted two-run homers for the Mets, who have produced 19 runs in the first two games of the season – matching their most ever. Captain David Wright also doubled in a run and Harvey (1-0) walked two, throwing 63 of his 94 pitches for strikes.

San Diego starter Clayton Richard (0-1) allowed eight runs – seven earned – and seven hits over 4 1/3 innings. Nick Hundley’s RBI double highlighted a three-run ninth inning for the Padres before Bobby Parnell came on to get the final out.

Marlon Byrd singled to lead off the second inning before Duda hammered Richard’s 1-1 pitch into the second deck for a 2-0 lead. Duda doubled and scored on Buck’s line-drive home run that just got over the right-field fence to double New York’s advantage in the fourth.

Wright’s double made it 5-0 in the fifth and he scored when Davis blasted a Richard offering to right for a 7-0 lead. Harvey, who had his worst of 10 starts during his rookie campaign against San Diego in 2012, retired the first nine batters he faced.
