Recap

Astros 6, Royals 5:
Matt Dominguez clubbed a three-run homer and Jason Castro added a solo shot to lead host Houston to a win in the opener of a three-game series.

Jimmy Paredes recorded two hits and an RBI groundout for the Astros, who have won three of five after a 2-12 stretch. Starter Dallas Keuchel (1-1) allowed four runs in 6 2/3 innings to pick up his first win since Sept. 22.

Jeremy Guthrie (5-2) gave up six runs in five innings to lose his second consecutive start after going 18 straight without a defeat as a member of the Royals, who fell below .500 with their 11th loss in 14 games. Miguel Tejada hit a three-run homer - his first since July 16, 2011 - in the losing effort.

Castro's fourth homer made it 3-1 in the third and Dominguez answered Tejada's blast in the fourth with one of his own in the bottom half to put Houston ahead 6-4. Keuchel got double plays to escape trouble in the fifth and sixth innings, and Paul Clemens took over with two outs and two on in the seventh and got Billy Butler to ground out to end another threat.

Jeff Francoeur doubled in Eric Hosmer in the eighth but the Astros escaped that inning without further trouble and Jose Veras retired the side in the ninth for his seventh save.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Mired in a 1-for-33 slump, Royals 3B Mike Moustakas got the night off. ... Kansas City C Salvador Perez hurt his right hip slamming into the railing in front of the Astros dugout racing for a foul ball in the fifth. He was replaced by George Kottaras to start the sixth. ... The last five hitters in Houston's starting lineup were 7-for-17 with four RBIs and five runs scored. The last five for Kansas City were 9-for-19 with five RBIs and five runs scored.
