Recap

Astros 7, Angels 6: Chris Carter belted a three-run homer and Jose Altuve knocked in a pair of runs as Houston edged visiting Los Angeles to snap a six-game losing streak.

Altuve hit a solo homer in the first inning and added an RBI infield single in the third, when the Astros scored five times to take the lead for good. Houston starter Jordan Lyles (1-0) gave up three runs and four hits over five innings for the win and Jose Veras pitched a perfect ninth for his third save.

Mark Trumbo, Howie Kendrick and Alberto Callaspo hit home runs for the Angels, who have dropped 10 of 13. Los Angeles starter C.J. Wilson (3-1) allowed seven runs (two earned) over 6 1/3 innings for his first defeat despite striking out 12.

Trumbo’s three-run homer - his sixth in eight games - to left field gave the Angels a 3-0 lead after four batters. The first two of three errors by catcher Hank Conger helped Houston build a five-run rally in the third, capped by Carter’s blast to left field for a 6-3 lead.

Robbie Grossman singled to extend his hitting streak to eight games, stole two bases and scored on another error by Conger for a 7-4 lead in the seventh. Callaspo brought the Angels within 7-6 after a two-run, two-out homer in the eighth - his first since April 3.
