Rockies 3, Marlins 2: Ryan Wheeler drove in his first run of the season with a tiebreaking double in the eighth inning as visiting Colorado rallied for a rare road victory.
Wheeler, recalled earlier in the day from Triple-A Colorado Springs, knocked in Michael Cuddyer, whose second RBI of the game drove in Troy Tulowitzki one batter earlier to make it 2-2 against loser Chad Qualls (4-2). Jhoulys Chacin (12-7) yielded two runs, four hits and four walks in seven innings as the Rockies won for the 10th time in their last 37 road games.
Tom Koehler allowed one run and six hits in seven innings to remain winless in his last four starts while Ed Lucas homered for Miami, which lost its fourth straight. Pinch hitter Greg Dobbs gave the Marlins a 2-1 lead in the seventh inning when his sacrifice fly drove in Jake Marisnick, who reached with a one-out triple.
The Marlins broke through in the fifth when Lucas hit the first pitch of the inning over the wall in left-center. Colorado responded in the sixth as DJ LeMahieu led off with a triple into the left-center gap and Tulowitzki walked before a fielder's choice grounder by Cuddyer tied the game.
Adam Ottavino struck out two in a perfect eighth while Rex Brothers did the same in the ninth for his 12th save in 13 chances. Brothers again assumed the closer's role after Rafael Betancourt, 38, was placed on the disabled list Friday - for the third time this season - with what could be a career-ending elbow injury.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Rockies improved to 2-32 on the road this season when their opponent scores first. ... Chacin's road ERA rose to 2.19 as he improved to 5-4 in 11 outings away from home. ...
