Recap

Reds 5, Brewers 1: Bronson Arroyo allowed five hits in 6 2/3 scoreless innings and rookie Donald Lutz hit his first career homer as Cincinnati completed a three-game sweep of visiting Milwaukee.

Arroyo (3-4) struck out five and walked one in snapping a four-start winless streak. Xavier Paul added a solo homer and Jay Bruce drove in a run and scored for the Reds, who have won seven of their last nine.

Jean Segura and Yuniesky Betancourt each had two hits as the Brewers dropped to 1-9 in May.

Cincinnati got to Milwaukee starter Wily Peralta (3-3) in the second inning when Brandon Phillips and Bruce led off with back-to-back singles. Peralta recovered to strike out Todd Frazier but left an 0-1 fastball up to Lutz, who crushed a line drive off the fair pole in right field.

The Reds scored again when Bruce’s groundout plated Joey Votto in the third, and Paul sent a pinch-hit blast into the bleachers in right off Mike Fiers in the seventh. Alex Gonzalez helped get Milwaukee on the board when he scored from third on a passed ball in the eighth.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Brewers have dropped four in a row and are three games into a 10-game road trip that will take them to Pittsburgh on Monday. … Fiers was recalled Saturday and arrived Sunday morning to join the Milwaukee bullpen. He spent 45 minutes of Mother’s Day with his mother, who is gravely ill with lupus, before boarding the plane. The Brewers had transferred Fiers from Class AAA Nashville to Class A Brevard County so that he could be closer to his mother in Florida, and he had been spending his time with her between starts. … Lutz made his major-league debut on April 29 and has hit safely in his last six games.
