Recap

Cardinals 2, Reds 1: Matt Holliday hit a two-run homer and Jaime Garcia pitched eight solid innings as host St. Louis evened the three-game series.

Carlos Beltran recorded three hits and scored a run while Edward Mujica struck out the side in order in the ninth inning for his fifth save as the Cardinals ended their three-game losing streak. Garcia (3-1) allowed a run and seven hits while recording 18 ground-ball outs and throwing 70 of his 92 pitches for a strike.

Bronson Arroyo (2-3) allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings while falling to 8-15 lifetime against St. Louis. Shin-Soo Choo had an RBI double for the Reds.

Neither team mustered much of a scoring threat during the first four innings while each starter benefited from a double play. The Reds got on the board in the fifth when Choo drove Garcia's 1-1 pitch off the bottom of the fence in the left-center gap for a two-out RBI double.

Beltran's one-out single in the sixth inning set the stage for Holliday. After swinging through a hanging curveball for strike two, Holliday crushed the ensuing identical pitch on a line just over the left-center field wall.
