Recap

Indians 1, Athletics 0: Zach McAllister scattered five singles in 7 2/3 innings and host Cleveland won for the eighth time in its last nine games.

Yan Gomes, the No. 9 hitter, delivered a sacrifice fly for the Indians, who have won two straight over the Athletics after losing their previous eight meetings. McAllister (3-3) gave way to Rich Hill, who got the last out in the eighth inning before Chris Perez worked around a one-out single in the ninth for his fourth save.

Tommy Milone (3-4) allowed an unearned run and five hits in seven innings in losing his fourth straight start. John Jaso had two hits for the Athletics, who fell to 5-13 against teams outside the American League West.

The first 13 batters were retired before Oakland's Eric Sogard reached on an infield hit, but was quickly erased by a double play. The Indians got leadoff doubles by Ryan Raburn in the third inning and Jason Kipnis in the fourth, but Raburn was stranded at third and Kipnis was picked off for the first out.

Carlos Santana led off the fifth inning by reaching second base on errors by first baseman Brandon Moss (fielding) and second baseman Sogard (throwing) on the same play. One out later, Santana advanced to third on Mike Aviles' single and scored on Gomes' sacrifice fly to the center field warning track.
