Nationals starter Gio Gonzalez didn't allow a baserunner until Dioner Navarro's infield single leading off the sixth, but the Cubs rallied against Washington's bullpen. Starlin Castro tied it with a two-out RBI single against Drew Storen in the eighth, and Chicago stole a run in the ninth.
After consecutive singles by Alfonso Soriano and Julio Borbon to start the inning against Rafael Soriano (0-1), the Cubs put on a double steal with one out, and Suzuki's throw hit batter Welington Castillo’s bat and went well wide of third base, allowing Soriano to scamper home with the go-ahead run.
Cubs starter Scott Feldman held the Nationals to one run on five hits over six innings and Kyuji Fujikawa and James Russell (1-0) each worked a scoreless inning to get the ball to Kevin Gregg, who retired the side in order in the ninth for his sixth save in as many opportunities.
