Recap

Braves 6, Royals 3: Jason Heyward and Justin Upton hit back-to-back homers in the eighth and Dan Uggla added another later in the inning as host Atlanta extended its winning streak to 10 games.

The Braves are 12-1 for the first time since 1994 and have their longest winning streak in 13 years. Juan Francisco homered twice as Atlanta hit five solo homers.

Heyward snapped a 2-2 tie with one out in the eighth on a homer to left off Kelvin Herrera (1-1), and Upton followed with his major league-leading eighth homer. Eric O’Flaherty (3-0) pitched a scoreless inning for the victory.

Francisco’s line-drive homer to right in the second gave Atlanta a 1-0 lead, and his homer to center in the seventh tied the game 2-2.

The Royals answered in the third on Chris Getz’s first homer in four years, a solo shot to right. Kansas City moved ahead 2-1 in the fourth as Salvador Perez reached on Francisco’s throwing error with one out and later scored on Jeff Francoeur’s two-out RBI single to right-center.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Getz ended the majors’ longest homer drought at 954 at-bats. He hit his only two prior homers with the White Sox in 2009. … Both starters pitched well. Atlanta starter Kris Medlen allowed two runs (one earned) in seven innings, while Kansas City’s Jeremy Guthrie scattered five hits in seven innings, allowing two runs and striking out six. … The Braves had not won 10 games in a row since reeling off an Atlanta-record 15-game winning streak in 2000.
