Recap

Rangers 5, Red Sox 1:
Alexi Ogando pitched six strong innings and Craig Gentry capped a three-RBI night with a homer in the eighth as Texas won its second straight against visiting Boston.

Ian Kinsler added a solo blast for the Rangers, who will go for the sweep of the three-game series Sunday. Ogando (3-2) allowed one run and six hits to snap a four-start winless streak.

Daniel Nava drove in the run and John Lackey (1-2) surrendered three runs and six hits in five innings to absorb the loss for the Red Sox.

Kinsler led off the bottom of the first and belted a first-pitch fastball into the stands in left. Nava lost the ball in the sun and turned around to see it land well into the seats.

Nava got that run back with an RBI single in the second, but Gentry came up with the bases loaded and two outs in the fourth and sent a high chopper to third. Boston third baseman Will Middlebrooks could not get it across in time to get the speedy Gentry, and the throw got by first baseman Mike Napoli to allow another run to score.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Red Sox DH David Ortiz extended his hitting streak to 24 games with a double in the second inning. … Rangers OF David Murphy was held out of the lineup and sent home with a stomach virus. … Boston RHP Andrew Bailey (biceps) threw before the game, but was not available. He has been out since Sunday.
