Recap

Red Sox 4, Diamondbacks 0:
Felix Doubront worked seven strong innings and Jacoby Ellsbury drove in a pair of runs as host Boston took the rubber match of the three-game interleague series.

Doubront (8-5) surrendered five hits and did not walk a batter while striking out five to snap a personal two-start slide. Shane Victorino added two hits and an RBI while Stephen Drew scored twice as the Red Sox maintained their one-game lead over the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League East.

Arizona's Cody Ross continued a strong series against his former team with two hits, but Brandon McCarthy (2-5) struggled in his first start off the disabled list. The right-hander was reached for two runs on five hits in 4 1/3 innings as the Diamondbacks fell 5 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.

Ellsbury got things started with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, and Dustin Pedroia’s RBI double later in the frame chased McCarthy.

A pair of singles and a sacrifice in the sixth left runners on second and third before Arizona right fielder Gerardo Parra, who made an error earlier in the game, lost Ellsbury’s lazy fly ball in the sun to allow a run to score. Victorino followed with an RBI single to center that capped the scoring.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Red Sox are expected to bring back RHP Brandon Workman from Triple-A Pawtucket to supplement the bullpen when they begin a series at Houston on Monday. OF Daniel Nava is scheduled to miss the series while on paternity leave. … Arizona designated LHP Tony Sipp for assignment to clear a roster spot for McCarthy. … The Diamondbacks get Monday off before beginning an eight-game homestand Tuesday against Tampa Bay.
