Recap

Rays 3, Orioles 1: Matt Moore pitched seven strong innings for his league-leading eighth victory as visiting Tampa Bay completed a three-game sweep of Baltimore.

Moore (8-0) allowed one run, five hits while striking out three and Fernando Rodney pitched a perfect ninth inning for his eighth save. Matt Joyce and Luke Scott homered for the Rays, who have won nine of their last 11.

Adam Jones recorded a pair of hits and an RBI for the Orioles, who have dropped five straight – all at home. Baltimore starter Chris Tillman (3-2) yielded three runs on five hits over six innings to suffer his second loss to the Rays this season.

Yunel Escobar walked with two outs in the third and scored when Desmond Jennings doubled on a 3-2 count down the left-field line for a 1-0 Rays’ lead. Manny Machado tripled to right-center field to lead off the fourth for Baltimore and scored on a single by Jones to tie the game.

Scott belted a solo homer to right field on a 1-1 pitch to lead off the fifth as Tampa Bay edged in front 2-1. Joyce’s homer in the sixth, a hooking line drive, was originally called a double before a review showed it hit the lower part of the right-field foul pole for a two-run lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Moore, 23, is the youngest American League left-hander to start 8-0 - exclusively as a starter - since Babe Ruth went 8-0 for Boston to begin the 1917 season. Ruth was 22. … Baltimore SS J.J. Hardy went 0-for-4 to see his 13-game hitting streak end. … The Rays called up LHP Jeff Beliveau from Triple-A Durham and sent LHP Alex Torres, Saturday’s winning pitcher, back down. Tampa Bay also announced RHP Jake Odorizzi would be recalled from Durham to start at Toronto on Monday afternoon.
