Rangers 2, Padres 1:
David Murphy hit a two-run single and Matt Harrison made it stand up with six strong innings as visiting Texas picked up its fourth straight win.

Elvis Andrus and Adrian Beltre scored and Ian Kinsler recorded a pair of hits and a stolen base for the Rangers.

San Diego starter Jason Marquis struck out 10 in seven innings but struggled at the start, allowing a hit and walking a pair with two outs in front of Murphy. The veteran took a 2-1 sinker and sent it on the ground back through the middle, just out of the reach of Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera to score two.

Harrison (9-3) let San Diego get one back in the bottom of the first but maintained the one-run lead, scattering six hits and walking two. The left-hander struck out four to record his fifth win in as many decisions.

Mark Lowe and former Padre Mike Adams each worked a scoreless inning in front of closer Joe Nathan, who allowed two hits but still notched his 14th save.

Chase Headley drove in the lone run for San Diego, driving a double off the center-field wall with two on. The runners had to hold on the long fly ball, preventing the tying run from crossing the plate.

Marquis (1-2), who was making his third start since being picked up by the Padres, allowed five hits while walking three. The veteran right-hander recorded his 1,000th career strikeout in the second inning.

Texas pitching has allowed three runs or less in each of the team’s last 11 wins. … Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (stomach virus) was with the team but did not start. He entered as a defensive replacement in the ninth. … San Diego IF Logan Forsythe (abdomen) was held out of the starting lineup for the third game and is limited to pinch running.
