Recap
Dodgers 3, Giants 2: Elian Herrera’s walkoff single scored Hanley Ramirez from third base and host Los Angeles kept its slim postseason hopes alive.
Ramirez led off the bottom of the ninth with a single off Santiago Casilla (7-6) and was sacrificed to second before moving to third on Luis Cruz’s single. He scored easily when second baseman Marco Scutaro wasn’t able to handle Herrera’s liner.
The Dodgers recorded their 12th walkoff win of the season and remained two games behind St. Louis for the second National League wild card spot with two games to play. Los Angeles matched its longest winning streak of the season at six.
The Cardinals clinched at least a tie for the second NL wild card with a 4-2 win over Cincinnati on Monday, meaning Los Angeles will be eliminated from the postseason with one more loss or a St. Louis victory.
The Dodgers took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on Andre Ethier’s two-run shot off Matt Cain, who allowed two runs over five frames. San Francisco tied the game in the eighth when Angel Pagan doubled and scored on Scutaro’s one-out single.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Dodgers 1B Adrian Gonzalez went 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. … Giants C Buster Posey went 1-for-4 and leads the NL in batting with a .336 average. … Scutaro has hit safely in a career-best 18 games, giving him the longest active hitting streak in the majors.
