Recap

Padres 9, Diamondbacks 3: Yonder Alonso homered and drove in three runs as visiting San Diego extended its winning streak to a season high-tying six games.

Chase Headley and Carlos Quentin also went deep while Clayton Richard tossed eight solid innings for the Padres, who have won six in a row at Chase Field after losing 24 of 30.

Headley and Quentin hit two-out solo shots in the first and fourth innings, respectively, before Alonso led off the fifth with his seventh blast of the year, giving San Diego a 3-2 edge. After Yasmani Grandal drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth, Alonso delivered a two-run single to extend the lead to four.

Richard (11-12) allowed three runs and seven hits en route to his fourth win in five starts. The left-hander, who walked two and struck out four, improved to 5-0 lifetime against Arizona while working at least eight innings for the third time in four outings.

Ian Kennedy (11-11) lasted 5 1/3 frames for the Diamondbacks, surrendering six runs and four hits with four walks and six strikeouts. The loss was Kennedy's first in 10 career starts versus the Padres.

Justin Upton hit a two-run, inside-the-park homer and Aaron Hill also went deep for Arizona, which fell to 2-4 on its 10-game homestand. Upton, who was celebrating his 25th birthday, missed the Diamondbacks' previous three contests with a hamstring injury.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Upton became the second player in major-league history to hit an inside-the-park homer on his birthday. Hall of Famer Lou Brock accomplished the feat on June 18, 1976 - also against the Padres - while with the St. Louis Cardinals. ... San Diego SS Everth Cabrera was caught stealing in the third inning, ending his franchise-record consecutive steals streak at 28. Cabrera also set the club mark with 24 successful steal attempts to start a season. ... Diamondbacks RHP Josh Collmenter struck out four over three scoreless innings in a rehab game in the Arizona League on Friday. Collmenter has been sidelined since Aug. 10 with ulcers.
