Recap

Padres 2, Mariners 0: Light-hitting Alexi Amarista delivered a two-run double and Edinson Volquez pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings to lead host San Diego.

Amarista doubled his RBI count in 28 games with the Padres by smacking a ground-rule double in the fourth for the only runs the Padres would need while beating Seattle for the fifth time in six games this season.

Volquez (4-7) allowed four hits while winning for just the second time in seven decisions with both victories coming against the Mariners. He struck out four and walked three.

Huston Street struck out two in the ninth to convert his 10th consecutive save this season as San Diego blanked a Seattle squad that had scored 32 runs over the previous four games.

The Padres loaded the bases in the fourth on two singles and a walk before Amarista’s one-out double against Hector Noesi.

Noesi (2-9) allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings while losing his sixth consecutive decision. He struck out six and walked three.

The 50-year-old had been out of uniform since mid-April. …Seattle third baseman Kyle Seager wasn’t in the starting lineup after fouling a ball off his right calf on Saturday. He doubled as a pinch hitter in the eighth and was doubled up on a liner to Amarista. … Veteran Mark Kotsay went 3-for-3 for San Diego. …Mariners outfielder Ichiro Suzuki is 11-for-22 over the last five games after going 1-for-3 Sunday.
