Recap
Mariners 5, Padres 1: Felix Hernandez struck out 10 and hit the go-ahead two-run double as visiting Seattle beat San Diego for the first time in five meetings this season.
Hernandez (5-5) allowed one run and six hits in seven innings while winning for just the second time in eight starts. He walked one and reached double digits in strikeouts for the second time this season and 18th time in his career.
Michael Saunders homered and had two of Seattle’s four stolen bases as the Mariners won for just the fourth time in the last 13 games.
San Diego scored in the first on a balk by Hernandez, and Seattle tied the score in the second on an infield out by Brendan Ryan before Hernandez laced a double inside the right-field line against Jason Marquis (1-3) to give Seattle a two-run lead.
Saunders homered off the foul pole in the third to make it 4-1 and Ichiro Suzuki added a run-scoring single in the fourth.
Marquis allowed five runs (two earned) and six hits in seven innings in his fourth outing since joining the Padres.
