Recap
Rangers 1, Mariners 0: Neftali Feliz pitched seven shutout innings in his first major-league start, outdueling Blake Beavan as Texas edged visiting Seattle.
Feliz (1-0), who totaled 72 saves as the Rangers’ closer the last two years, allowed just four hits and two walks while striking out four. He threw 108 pitches and did not allow a Mariners baserunner to reach third base until there were two outs in the seventh.
Mike Adams worked a perfect eighth for his third hold of the year, and new closer Joe Nathan collected his second save after a 1-2-3 ninth.
Beavan (0-1) took the loss despite yielding just one run on six hits and a walk in 6 1/3 innings.
The Rangers scored the game’s only run in the second inning when Michael Young reached on a fielder’s choice, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a two-out infield single by David Murphy.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Texas has won seven consecutive games against the Mariners ... Murphy went 3-for-3 before being lifted for a pinch runner in the seventh inning, raising his batting average to .533 (8-for-15).
