Recap

Mariners 7, Athletics 1:
Kyle Seager laced a three-run double, Brendan Ryan had a two-run double and Jason Vargas pitched his first complete game of the season as visiting Seattle halted a three-game losing streak.

Vargas (8-7) allowed one run and seven hits to win for the first time since June 4 as the Mariners snapped the Athletics’ five-game winning streak. Vargas struck out six and walked one and Seattle turned four double plays to help him notch his sixth career complete game.

Ichiro Suzuki’s first hit in 23 July at-bats came with two outs in the fifth and two walks loaded the bases before Seager doubled into the right-field center gap on an 0-2 pitch from Oakland reliever Jerry Blevins to give Seattle a 7-1 advantage.

The Mariners struck in the first when John Jaso’s liner to center got past Oakland’s Coco Crisp for a single and two-base error and allowed Michael Saunders to score.

Oakland’s Josh Reddick smacked his 20th homer of the season in the bottom of the first to tie the contest.

Ryan delivered a two-run double in the second off Athletics starter Jarrod Parker (5-4) and Casper Wells homered to left in the fourth to give the Mariners a 4-1 advantage.

Parker was charged with six runs (five earned) and six hits in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked two.

Crisp had three of Oakland’s seven hits.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Vargas has allowed a major-league leading 23 homers and given up at least one in 11 consecutive starts. … Reddick is the first Oakland player to reach 20 homers before the All-Star break since Nick Swisher in 2006. … Wells went 2-for-4 and is batting .333 in 45 career at-bats against the Athletics. … Oakland starters had put together seven straight outings of allowing one or fewer runs until Parker’s poor outing. The franchise record of eight was set in 1966 when the Athletics called Kansas City home.
