Recap

Rangers 7, Athletics 6: David Murphy's two-run single capped a four-run fifth inning and put host Texas ahead to stay in the opener of a four-game series.

Josh Hamilton and Adrian Beltre also drove in two runs apiece and Ian Kinsler had four hits as the Rangers improved to a major league-best 48-29 and moved a season-high 19 games over .500.

Scott Feldman (2-6) won his second straight start despite a shaky performance, giving up four runs on nine hits - including three homers - in five-plus innings. Joe Nathan worked out of a two-on, one-out jam in the ninth for his 18th save.

Josh Reddick, Derek Norris and Cliff Pennington homered and Yoenis Cespedes had three hits - including a pair of RBI singles - for Oakland, which lost for only the fifth time in 16 games.

Athletics starter Tyson Ross (2-8) allowed five runs on eight hits in four-plus innings to absorb his fifth consecutive defeat.

Texas erased an early 4-1 deficit by parlaying four walks, two infield hits and Murphy's two-run single into four runs in the fifth for a 6-4 lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Beltre had his hitting streak snapped at eight games. ... Norris and Pennington went back-to-back in the third inning, giving the A's five straight hits that were homers over two games - the first time they've accompished that feat since September 2001. ... Winners of six straight series, Texas entered Thursday with the best 76-game record (47-29) in team history. ... A's veteran RHP Bartolo Colon (oblique) threw a bullpen session Thursday and reported no issues. He is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.
