Recap
Athletics 4, Dodgers 1: Yoenis Cespedes hit a three-run walk-off homer and the Athletics completed a three-game sweep of the visiting Dodgers.
After Coco Crisp walked to lead off the bottom of the ninth and reached third on Jemile Weeks’ bunt single, Cespedes lined a homer to left off Josh Lindblom (2-1).
Ryan Cook (2-1) worked a scoreless top of the ninth for Oakland, which has won eight of its past nine games.
The dramatic finish overshadowed an outstanding pitchers’ duel between the Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw and the A's’ Travis Blackley, who had nearly identical pitching lines over eight innings.
Blackley gave up one run on three hits with six strikeouts and no walks, throwing 67 of 87 pitches for strikes.
Kershaw, who retired his final 13 batters and gave up one run while fanning seven, has won just once in his last six starts.
The Athletics took an early lead when Brandon Inge’s sacrifice fly scored Jonny Gomes in the second, but the Dodgers answered in the fourth on Juan Rivera’s RBI single.
Kershaw picked off Crisp at first base in the first inning, snapping Crisp’s franchise record streak of 36 straight successful steals.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The top three hitters in the Dodgers' order - Dee Gordon, Elian Herrera and Andre Ethier – went a combined 2-for-35 with no walks in the series. … Athletics C Derek Norris went 0-for-3 in his major league debut. … The Athletics have won three straight series for the first time since Sept. 3-12, 2010. …Blackley, who earned his first win since 2004 last Friday, worked past the sixth inning for the first time in his career.
