Diamondbacks 4, Athletics 3: Aaron Hill ripped a two-run single during a three-run first inning and Joe Saunders tossed six solid frames as host Arizona completed a sweep of Oakland.
Jason Kubel added a run-scoring single and Paul Goldschmidt extended his career-best hitting streak to 17 games for the Diamondbacks, who posted their season-high fifth straight win and seventh in eight contests. Arizona leveled its record at 30-30, marking the first time it has reached .500 since it split its first 14 contests this season.
After Kubel reached on shortstop Cliff Pennington's error with two outs in the first inning, plating Chris Young, Hill made Oakland pay for not ending the frame by depositing the next pitch from Travis Blackley (0-2) into left field. Justin Upton and Goldschmidt scored to give Arizona a 3-0 lead.
Saunders (4-4) improved to 13-4 in his career versus Oakland after allowing two runs on seven hits. The victory was just his second in eight starts.
After Bryan Shaw permitted Seth Smith's RBI single in the seventh, David Hernandez handcuffed Oakland by striking out the side in the eighth. J.J. Putz retired the side in the ninth for his 13th save.
Brandon Inge had an RBI double and Josh Donaldson added a run-scoring single for the Athletics.
Making his third start, Blackley yielded four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings to take the loss.
