Recap

Rangers 3, Angels 1: Adrian Beltre, a late addition to the lineup after being hospitalized earlier in the day, drilled a two-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to lift visiting Texas in the rubber game of the series.

Beltre, who missed Wednesday's game due to intestinal pain, hammered a pitch from Ernesto Frieri (3-2) into the stands in left field for his 34th homer and a 3-1 lead.

Rangers rookie Yu Darvish (16-9) won his fourth consecutive decision, allowing one run on four hits while striking out nine to maintain the Rangers' four-game lead over Oakland atop the American League West.

Texas closer Joe Nathan worked around a two-out double in the ninth to register his 34th save and seal a costly loss for the Angels, who dropped 4 1/2 games behind wild-card co-leaders Baltimore and Oakland.

Right-hander Zack Greinke was superb for Los Angeles, permitting only one run on five hits and striking out eight, matching his high since joining the Angels at the trade deadline.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Rangers 3B Michael Young had a pair of hits, including a double prior to Beltre's blast, to extend his hitting streak to nine games. ... Angels manager Mike Scioscia said left-hander C.J. Wilson will remain in the starting rotation despite lasting only 2 2/3 innings in Wednesday's loss. ... Rangers CF Josh Hamilton remained out of the lineup while dealing with a sinus infection and experiencing problems with his vision. He is scheduled to be examined by team doctors Friday in Texas.
