Recap
Angels 3, Mariners 0: Dan Haren struck out a career-high 14 and Albert Pujols belted his 450th career homer to lead visiting Los Angeles to its third straight victory.
Pujols had three hits - including a two-run homer in the first inning - to help the Angels move past Seattle and out of the American League West cellar.
Haren (2-5) allowed just four hits and didn’t walk a batter while hurling his sixth career shutout and snapping a personal four-game losing streak.
Haren reached 1,500 strikeouts in his career when he fanned Michael Saunders with one out in the eighth. He increased the total to 1,502 with two strikeouts in the ninth.
Mike Trout led the game off with a single prior to Pujols hitting his one-out blast off Seattle starter Jason Vargas (5-4). Pujols is the 35th player in major-league history to reach 450 homers.
Pujols delivered a leadoff single in the sixth and stole second before scoring on a one-out single to left by Kendrys Morales.
Vargas allowed three runs and seven hits in seven innings.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Haren improved to 11-5 in 20 career starts against the Mariners … Seattle’s Alex Liddi fanned four times against Haren and has struck out 29 times in 81 at-bats this season … Angels reliever David Pauley was designated for assignment and infielder Andrew Romine was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake City … Mariners catcher Miguel Olivo (groin) was activated from the disabled list and went hitless in three at-bats. Outfielder Casper Wells was sent to Triple-A Tacoma.
