Recap

Padres 3, Angels 2: Alexi Amarista broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI double in the seventh inning and waiver wire pickup Eric Stults pitched 6 2/3 effective frames as host San Diego evened the interleague series.

Stults, who was released by the Chicago White Sox on Thursday, allowed two runs and four hits. Luke Gregerson (1-0) recorded the final out in the seventh.

San Diego's Andrew Cashner allowed a hit and struck out three in the eighth inning and Dale Thayer worked around a one-single by Erick Aybar in the ninth to earn his fifth save in five chances.

Los Angeles’ Dan Haren (1-5) lost his fourth straight decision after allowing three runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings. The Angels were shut out in his previous three starts.

Aybar went 4-for-4 and finished a home run shy of the cycle. Amarista was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Nick Hundley led off the Padres’ seventh with a single and was sacrificed to second by Everth Cabrera. Amarista followed with a two-base hit down the left field line which easily scored Hundley.

Los Angeles took a 1-0 lead when Aybar tripled home Howard Kendrick in the second inning. San Diego tied it in the third on Cameron Maybin’s sacrifice fly.

Mike Trout knocked in Aybar with a groundout in the fifth before Maybin answered in the bottom half when he laced a single up the middle to score Amarista.
