Jeff Francis (2-1) improved to 6-1 lifetime against the Cardinals by allowing two runs in five innings. Three relievers bridged the cap to Rafael Betancourt, who struck out Jon Jay with the tying run on third base to end the game and notch his 13th save.

Cardinals rookie Joe Kelly (1-1) allowed three runs (two earned) over six innings. He retired the first seven batters before a walk sparked Colorado’s third-inning rally.
