Rockies 5, Pirates 4: Dexter Fowler delivered a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning as Colorado prevailed after blowing a 4-1 lead in the top of the frame.

Rookie Wilin Rosario led off the ninth inning with a hard single to left off Jason Grilli (1-3) and, after rookie Josh Rutledge struck out while trying to sacrifice, pinch hitter Jason Giambi's single to deep right-center advanced Rosario to third. Fowler followed with a fly to medium center field, and Rosario beat Andrew McCutchen's throw to the plate.

With the Rockies leading 4-1, closer Rafael Betancourt allowed singles to McCutchen and Neil Walker in the ninth inning before the game was halted with one out for 53 minutes because of rain. Rex Brothers (5-2) took the ball after play resumed and gave up a three-run homer to Pedro Alvarez on his first pitch.

Neil Walker went 3-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 16 games and McCutchen went 2-for-4 for the Pirates, who remained one game behind Cincinnati in the National League Central and lost for only the fifth time in their last 16 games.

The Rockies took the lead with a four-run fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run pinch hit double by Eric Young Jr. Tyler Colvin led off with a walk and advanced to third on Rosario’s single. After Rutledge’s single drove in Colvin, Young lined a 2-2 pitch over the head of right fielder Josh Harrison. Marco Scutaro's single knocked in Young to finish the uprising.

Rockies starter Jeff Francis allowed six hits – none for extra bases – and one run in five innings. Pittsburgh’s Jeff Karstens allowed four runs and six hits in seven innings. His RBI single in the fifth inning gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Colorado INF Chris Nelson was admitted to a hospital Monday and underwent tests for an irregular heartbeat.
