Brewers 4, Padres 3: Martin Maldonado belted a grand slam in the third inning and host Milwaukee held on to clinch the series win.
Norichika Aoki reached on a one-out bunt single and stole second before Ryan Braun and Travis Ishikawa drew two-out walks. Maldonado then drilled a 2-2 offering from Anthony Bass (2-8) well into the seats in left-center field for his first career grand slam and first homer in 18 games.
Jim Henderson (1-2) picked up the win after striking out two in a perfect seventh inning. John Axford worked around a pair of hits in the ninth for his 35th save in 44 opportunities.
Bass lasted only three innings in a spot start, surrendering four runs on three hits and three walks. The right-hander, who was named the starter on Monday night after rookie Casey Kelly was shut down for the year, struck out three.
Everth Cabrera collected three hits while Will Venable and pinch hitters Jesus Guzman and Yasmani Grandal each drove in a run for the Padres, who have lost six of seven.
