Brewers 3, Cubs 1:
Michael Fiers outdueled Jeff Samardzija as visiting Milwaukee picked up its eighth straight win over Chicago.

Jean Segura drove in the go-ahead run and Aramis Ramirez added an RBI for the Brewers, who have taken 13 of 16 meetings with the Cubs this season.

Fiers (8-6) allowed one run on four hits while walking one and striking out six in 7 1/3 innings. The rookie right-hander, who has recorded a quality start in 10 of his last 12 turns, had retired 14 straight before Darwin Barney led off the eighth with a single.

Samardzija (8-12) was nearly as sharp, striking out 10 without walking a batter. The right-hander was charged with three runs - two earned - on seven hits in seven innings.

Milwaukee snuck across a run in the first, when Norichika Aoki led off with a double, moved up on Ryan Braun’s one-out single and scored on Ramirez’s fielder’s choice.

The Cubs got back that run on Barney’s RBI groundout in the second but did not get another runner into scoring position against Fiers.

The Brewers broke the 1-1 deadlock in the seventh thanks to some poor defense by Chicago. Nyjer Morgan reached on a one-out bunt single and moved up on Samardzija’s throwing error. Morgan scampered to third on a wild pitch and scored on Segura’s single to center.

Segura broke for second base and went for third when catcher Welington Castillo’s throw trickled into center. Barney picked up the ball and fired for third, but Luis Valbuena could not handle the throw and Segura scored.

John Axford worked the ninth for his 22nd save.

The seventh-inning error on Barney’s throw was given to Valbuena, allowing Barney to break the National League record with his 114th consecutive errorless game. Placido Polanco holds the major-league record for second basemen at 141 straight games in a single season, set with the Detroit Tigers in 2007. … Brewers RHP Shaun Marcum is still scheduled to start Thursday despite trade rumors. The veteran reportedly was placed on waivers earlier in the week. … The Cubs continued their front-office makeover by naming Brandon Hyde director of player development. Hyde had been serving as the team’s minor-league field coordinator.
